How to Clean Mold off Walls

One thing we can all agree on is this: the sight of mold growing on the interior walls of your house is never something to be happy about. In fact, it’s a major health concern. The good news is there’s something you can do about it. If you’ve noticed mold, at least you’ve identified the problem. The next stop is getting rid of it.
At El Milagrito, we know how worrying the sight of mold can be. But rest assured that if you’ve got mold in your home, we’ve got your back. Read on as we guide you through the quickest, easiest, and most effective way of dealing with it.

Mold Removal – An Absolute Must

Mold is more than just an unpleasant sight. It’s a danger, especially for people with allergies or respiratory problems. All in all, breathing it in can be harmful to anyone. One thing we know about mold is how it thrives in damp areas where the air is humid, such as bathrooms, basements, attics, and kitchens, but truth be told, it can grow even where you least expect it.

Seeing it means you now have the opportunity to fight it, and doing so is a must. If left alone, mold will only grow. It can spread to damage your walls, make the paint peel, and cause you and anyone in your house various health problems. So roll up your sleeves, grab a cloth, and let’s go and get it.

Remove Mold Safely

Don’t put yourself in danger. If you have to clean mold, make sure you do it the safe way. After all, mold is not something to mess around with. First, you’ll need some gloves (washing-up gloves are ideal), a disposable face mask, and if you want to be extra safe, a pair of safety goggles. Now take a look in the mirror. Looking cool, right?

Now that you have the appearance of a lean, mean, mold-removing machine, here’s what to do next. Open the windows and let some fresh air into your home. Now let’s get cleaning.

Gather Your Tools

Sadly, dressing like a mold-removal professional isn’t going to get the mold off your walls. You have to act, and not with your bare hands. What you need is the right set of tools. Consider the following:

● A spray bottle
● A clean cloth or sponge
● A scrub brush
● A bucket of warm water
● El Milagrito Degreaser

Let’s Get This Mold-Removal Party Started

To get started, make sure the area is clear. Remove any clutter, furniture, or objects that might get splashed. This is particularly important in the bathroom because you don’t want any splodges of mold and spray landing on your toothbrush. Nor do you want any of those things ending up on your pillows or sofa cushions.

Once the area is clear, you can start by giving the walls a wipe with a dry cloth. This will remove any dirt or dust that’s been sitting there and gone unnoticed. Done? Now, let’s move on.

Attack the Mold

Take your spray bottle and fill it with a mixture of warm water and El Milagrito Degreaser. The mixture only needs to be about 20% degreaser and the other 80% warm water. This should give you a strong enough mold removal spray that doesn’t wash away any paint from the wall.

Spray this solution on top of the mold. Be generous with how much spray you apply to cover all the mold, but don’t go overboard either. The mold should be covered, but the wall doesn’t need to be completely soaked and dripping.

Then, just let it sit for a few minutes. The liquid will do its job and start sinking into the mold, loosening it up, and breaking it down. During these calm moments, the mold will get weaker as the minutes pass.

Scrub the Mold Away

The solution has done the soaking in part, now it’s on you to get scrubbing. You can use either a scrubbing brush or a sponge. Start scrubbing from the top of the mold-covered area and work your way down. This will help to avoid the potential problem of dirty water dripping onto areas that have already been cleaned.

What do you do when the stains refuse to let their last little traces be washed aside? Simply spray El Milagrito degreaser on top, let it sit, then wipe the problem away.

Rinse and Repeat if Necessary

Now that the mold has been scrubbed away, it’s time to give the walls a light rinse. Dip a clean cloth or sponge into some warm water and wipe the surface of the wall gently. If any trace of a stain still remains, you can start the process over again.

Finally, once your walls are stain-free, be sure to give them one final wipe-down with a clean and dry cloth. Nobody wants wet or damp walls, do they? And that’s it. You’re now mold-free. For more ways to transform your home into a state of maximum cleanliness, see El Milagrito news.
